At the beginning of a new year of a new decade, we want to be intentional to think outside of the box when we create art and when we define what it
means to be a "worship leader". This includes:
- Freedom To Live Differently:
God has called us to be worship leaders, but we desire for that calling to be something other than a type of Christian celebrity status.
Instead we desire to obediently pursue where He leads, even if that means making some unpopular or non-standard decisions for the benefit of the Kingdom.
- Freedom To Lead Worship Differently: We are compelled to explore different avenues to help people express the overflow of their hearts from
living a life of worship. We are committed to help worship remain a movement and not become an institution.
- Freedom To Create Differently: Unfortunately, constraints, both individually and culturally, have forced musicians - even in the Christian music
industry - to think in terms of singles, demographics, and record sales instead of creatively worshiping a creative God. We are in a time where this model
needs to change.
Our plan this year includes pushing the envelope for us and, hopefully, for worship music as a whole. We will begin recording in January, but not
necessarily for the express purpose of simply releasing another record. Instead, we desire it to be a fluid process based on community with our friends
and fans. We will undertake recording one new song a month, posting it on our website for everyone to listen - and react - to. We invite you to express
yourself creatively along with us, sending in scripture, poetry, drawings, photography, or other art that God may inspire in you upon hearing a new song.
These items will decorate our studio and in turn inspire us in the new material we create; a give and take process. As new ideas for community crop up,
we will incorporate these into the process. As a participant in this project, please let us know your ideas as well.
We believe that living in community should extend to creating art inspired by a Holy God, and we want everyone to be as involved as they want to be.
You will be able to watch us, via webcam, in the studio and join us in the worship of creating music. There are too many missed opportunities to engage
in worship together when all you see from a band is the finished product after months of absence. Think of it as a "corporate" way to make art. These
songs may become demos for a proper album, they may become the album itself, or you may never hear these songs again.
We are unsure where this grand experiment may ultimately lead, and we admit that it may be a failure. But we also believe that the process of worship is
not always about complete success but growing in Christ along the way, no matter the outcome. At the very least, we hope to inspire other artists to
pursue new and uncharted territory in worship and question why things are done the way they are. At best, we hope to push and challenge ourselves to think
outside the box about creating art that glorifies God.
